I have fairly fragile, but otherwise rather ordinary, hair and so I do like to try and give it a bit more style and interest. But many straighteners I’ve used in the past just flatten it and cause a fair amount of damage too, including breakage and dryness. I’m sure you’ll know what I mean – when the straightener snags and you can almost feel those strands of hair breaking and pinging back towards your scalp!
Well, I thought I’d found the answer to most of my hair problems when I reviewed Keeo’s original Genius straightener. However, it looks like they may just have gone one-better with this one which has adjustable heat and tension controls. So, read my Keeo Genius Pro+ review to find out why this might be the kindest straightener you’ve ever used on your hair.

- adjustable heat & tension controls
- contoured plates that don’t snag
- effective on all hair types
- doesn’t split & break my hair

Cons

Thank you to this brand for sending me this product to trial. However, this Keeo Genius Pro+ review is based completely on my experience of using the product and my subsequent thoughts on it. Keeo has had no editorial input.

My experience
I trialled the Keeo Genius Pro+ straightener every 2-3 days over an 8 week period so that I could assess the health of my hair after using it consistently, and to establish how easy it is to use, its performance and the quality of the product.
With my fine, straight hair, I used it to create both curly and straight styles, similar to when I reviewed their Genius Smart-Glide product. But, with its adjustable heat and tension controls, I wanted to give this Pro+ product a bigger challenge, so I enlisted the help of my daughter for the duration of the trial because her hair is thick, naturally wavy and prone to frizz when she straightens it. She clearly didn’t get her luxurious locks from me…
The Keeo Genius Pro+ is kind to your hair
Both Lucy and I found that our hair remained extremely healthy and shiny after trialling the Pro+ straightener. We’d both had recent haircuts so started out without any split ends or heat damage, and happily, neither of us saw any change to that after using this straightener for 8 weeks.
With the adjustable tension control and the contoured plates, we just didn’t experience that awful gripping feeling you can get with some straighteners where you’re almost dragging them through your hair, ironing it into submission and breaking fragile strands.
I kept the tension on the Pro+ fairly low for my fine hair, but Lucy dialled it up significantly in order to tame her more obstinate locks. However, that increase in the tension control had no negative impact on performance and we both later described the rather satisfying feeling of this straightener just gliding through your hair.

It’s straightforward to use
Lay out your heat mat, plug in and turn on your Keeo Genius Pro+, select your temperature and tension using the straightforward controls pictured, and off you go. It really is that simple. The temperature button ranges from 190°C to 210°C and there are 2 tension settings.
And here are some of the other advantages of this product that help simplify your life:
- Hibernation mode: if you inadvertently leave it switched on, you can be sure that after 35 minutes it’ll cool down. Still not advisable to leave it plugged in if at all possible though, obviously!
- Dual voltage: means you can use this straightener anywhere in the world with the right adapter which is amazing. I for one definitely need hair help when I’ve been in and out of a swimming pool on holiday…
- 2.7 metre cable: which I’ve found really helpful because the sockets in my house always seem to be in the wrong place and I really dislike having extension leads trailing everywhere
- 360° swivel on the cable so no awkward moments getting the cable all twisted up when I’m turning it to curl my hair
- Additional safety features: the Pro+ plays a merry (short) little tune so you’ll know when you’ve switched them on, and they also light up for the duration which is a useful visual clue too

Works really well on different hair types
I was keen for my daughter to try out the Keeo Genius Pro+ for this review too because her hair type is almost the opposite of mine. Where my hair is fine, thin, pretty straight, and fragile, hers is much thicker, with a natural wave and a tendency to frizz if she puts heat anywhere near it!
So whereas I tended to use the lower heat and tension setting to great effect, she needed to switch it up to achieve the results she wanted. But when using other straighteners at those higher temperatures she often finds her hair can frizz and she ends up with heat damage and split ends. However, perhaps because of the contoured plates, she didn’t experience any issues with the Pro+ and she was really happy with how her hair looked and felt after using it for 8 weeks.
I did also try out the medium temperature setting and found that it actually helped the style to last that bit longer and with more definition. So I think it’s safe to say that I’m confident this straightener would suit pretty much every hair type.
Cost & comparison
Whilst you can buy cheaper hair straighteners, in my opinion you get what you pay for and you can even risk damaging your hair with some. I think the quality of the Keeo Genius Pro+ is excellent and clearly a lot of thought has been put into the design and manufacture of it.
You will also find that they regularly have generous money off deals on their site, and the great news is that my exclusive discount code gives you an additional £15 off! Below I have given you a headline comparison between the 2 models they make. You can also read my Keeo Hair Straightener review to find out more about their original product.

My verdict on this Keeo Genius Pro+ review
I really love my original Keeo hair straightener, but must admit that the Keeo Genius Pro+ model is even better and we found that the option to adjust the temperature and tension settings was a key differentiator.
Using a higher temperature and tension setting on my daughter’s thick, naturally wavy hair meant that she was able to straighten it much more easily and quickly, and the effect lasted for much longer. And although I didn’t need to use a higher temperature on my thinner hair to achieve the style I wanted, doing so made the results more long-lasting too.
Importantly though, neither of us experienced any issues with snagging or heat damage, whatever setting we decided to use. And that is significant because if you are going to regularly use heat to style your hair, you want to use a tool that is designed to care for it at the same time, and the Keeo Pro+ certainly seems to do that with its contoured plates.
So, I really like the additional control the Pro+ gives me with its adjustable heat and tension settings, and I think the addition of the free heat mat and £100 worth of haircare health products makes it an even more worthwhile buy. And it may just be the kindest hair straightener yet!
